Abstract

Data were collected from 82 elderly over 65, from October 1, 2005 to October 30, 2005 in G city.
The instrument used were health status scale developed by Young-Hee Choi et al. (1990), social support scale developed by Jee-Won Park (1985) and partially amended by Joo-Woo Hong (1999), and life satisfaction scale developed by Jin Yoon (1982).
Data were analysed frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA and Person¡¯s correlation coefficient Using SPSS/PC (12.0) program.
The results were as follows :
1. In health status of subject, The mean score for physical health status was 2.6¡¾ 23, psychological health status was 2.4¡¾ 39. The mean score for social support was 3.4¡¾ 88. The mean score for life satisfaction was 2.0¡¾ 52.

2. There were significant differences in health status according to general characteristics such as education level, perceived health status, share of living expense and illness existence.
3. There were significant differences in social support according to general characteristics such as perceived health status and pocket money.
4. There were significant differences in life satisfaction according to general characteristics such as living together status, perceived health status, illness existence and pocket money.
5. There were significant positively correlated physical health status and psychological health status (r=.662, p=.000), physical health status and social support (r=.303, p=.006), physical health status and life satisfaction (r= .514, p=.000), psychological health status and social support (r=.489, p=.000), psychological health status and life satisfaction (r=.818, p= .000), social support and life satisfaction (r= .375, p=.001).
From above result, psychological health status of the elderly themselves are found as important variables to affect life satisfaction Thus, psychological health status should be considered in order to improve nursing intervention for life satisfaction of the elderly.
